Safari Zoo Run 2017

[Event Listing and Giveaway]

Whoa! Can’t believe that Safari Zoo Run will already be in its third year come Feb 2017! I still remember joining the inaugural run back in 2015 with the 3 older kids and will be trying to bring all 4 along for the run next year!

The theme for Safari Zoo Run 2017 is “Run For Wildlife” and features 4 animal icons; Ah Meng the Orangutan, Chawang the Asian Elephant, Canola the Manatee and Sunny the Hornbill (who also happens to be the newly appointed park animal icon for Jurong Bird Park).

The family knows how fun it is like to take part in the Zoo Run, especially in the non-competitive categories where we would stop by the many animal exhibits and take countless photos. And the little ones were also encouraged with the presentation of a beautiful medal at the end of their run, and it is something that they will be looking forward to as they make their way to the finishing line in the upcoming “race”.

We are pleased to share with you a special code for registration of the run next year. You can start booking your slots at http://www.safarizoo.run/ with the code: SZR2017BGPWPFATHERS10 for 10% off the listed rates! I am not Madame Bovary《我不是潘金莲》Review

[Movie Invite]

When the name Fan Bing Bing pops up, the image of a Chinese supermodel strutting down the red carpets comes to mind. But in the movie “I am not Madame Bovary”, this beautiful award-winning actress takes on the role of an uneducated peasant Li Xuelian, seeking redress from various government officials for what she claimed as a sham divorce from her husband, Qin Yuhe. Indignant, she had wanted the courts to pronounce the divorce as void, so that she can get a real divorce with her ex-husband!

The movie was presented as a comedy in the trailers, and while it did draw lots of laughter throughout the show, I also felt sad and sympathized with the lead character who was being deceived by, ridiculed in public and likened to be promiscuous Madame Bovary by her husband. I think any lesser-willed lady may have sought relief in the form of suicide, given what she had to endure.

However, being the strong-willed and hard-headed lady she is, she was worse than any parasites, to any unfortunate official who had to deal with her. Although it was clearly a domestic affair that no official can resolve using laws, but the lady would not take no for an answer. Her chance, or rather, calculated encounter with a higher ranking official, cost many officials down the bureaucracy who had previously failed her, to lose their jobs. It was funny but it did made me relate to our own political situation, and how our MPs should be serving the constituents.

Li Xuelian is really the epitome for the saying “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”, having spent a good decade of her life trying to take her husband to courts and suing anyone who comes in her way from seeking her “justice”. In the end, it did make me ponder if she was just simply being vindictive? My wife found it to be a little boring towards the end and felt that the jokes were already over used and she didn't really like the way the film was presented in a round frame (much like watching the scene through a telescope). I thought it was a terrible waste of screen area. I did enjoy it more than my missus and also felt it was decent enough to warrant a weekday ticket price.

Christmas Made Perfect at Frasers Centrepoint Malls

[Media Invite]

I was super busy the whole of last week that I totally forgotten about the invite to catch Alice In Wonderland at The Centrepoint last Friday. And I am so glad I managed to bring the three older kiddos down in the end. I usually have little expectations for mall shows because they are after all, short skits with mascots dancing or teasers for the full but ticketed productions.

Got to know a little more about Alice before she started performing for everyone.
I had to give my two thumbs up to this fantastic show put up by The Centrepoint. It kept the kiddos entertained and they were so engrossed with the performances from the start till the end! It was truly a broadway-styled rendition of the popular story of Alice In Wonderland, with performers in exquisite costumes and they were all singing live!

The Queen has got to be one of the most animated characters! Damn funny!
But that's not all, there were even magic and circus arts built into the story. Comedic magic lead to much laughters while the gravity-defying balancing kept everyone at the edge of our seats! Despite the relatively small stage, the show still managed to keep everyone from kiddos to even adults like myself and the rest of the parents entertained! A show not to be missed if you are around Orchard!

Juggling acts!
Confetti shower!
Amazing acrobatic feats!
And of course, a nice group photo with all the casts at the Meet-And-Greet!
Meanwhile, The Centrepoint is also in the running for the Orchard Road’s Annual Best Dressed Building Competition and you will be able to find lots of giant Gingerbread Man at the front of the building for lots of photo opportunities, with fake snow added at certain timings too!

Useful Information

Venue: The Centrepoint, Level 1 Atrium
Date: From 11 - 20 November
Showtimes: 1.30pm and 6,30pm daily
(with costume parade 30mins before show and 30mins Meet-and-Greet after)

Check out Fraser Centrepoint Malls for more information!

Toys"R"Us Vivocity Flagship Store Revamp!

[Media Invite]

Toy"R"Us had always been a place I could stay in for hours at a time since young. I had always been fascinated by the many different "toys" I was able to find there, especially the "Sea Monkeys" sets and other educational sets like the working telescopes and microscopes!

Was invited over to their huge flagship store at Vivocity after their revamp recently and I am positively certain that any toy-loving kid (or adult alike) will find it really hard to leave the 30,000sq ft store! The entire store looks so much bigger and brighter, the aisles felt wider too and the toys selection was simply overwhelming.

The LEGO section alone took up a fairly big space (not that I am complaining) and in conjunction with the re-opening of the Vivocity store, Toys“R”Us has launched, for the first time in Singapore, the LEGO Star Card which offers exclusive gifts and benefits! Brick lovers rejoice for the selection of LEGO sets here is comparable, and even more comprehensive than some of the LEGO specialty stores!

Besides being able to try out the many toys first before purchasing, there are also lots of photo opportunities for everyone in the store. Two life-sized Stormtrooper are located near the entrance while the 4 huge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are housed near the other end! And there are numerous other play area or pop-up display throughout!

Go check out the store if you are near the vicinity, it's definitely worth a visit if you need to get some toys for whatever reasons. Otherwise, you can also catch Pokemon while you are there!
